Notes: This fic was written (quite hurriedly) for the prompt of “Healing” at fan_flashworks—although I’ve wanted to write some version of this altered scene for a long time before now. It’s basically just a “how it should have ended” for the KotIF series, correcting the incredibly hurtful and needless narrative decisions that were inflicted upon Ikoma. As will probably be obvious if you’ve read my other KotIF stories, this has always been the preferred conclusion in my own headcanon. *g*

Ikoma is still a Kabaneri here, but I avoid mentioning Mumei to allow the possibility that he was able to make her human again.
