lxg_fanfiction ficathon in October of 2004. I had the honor of receiving the challenge put forth by clez, who requested Sawyer angst. After struggling for ideas, I was within a few days of excusing myself from the ficathon, but then I gained chance inspiration from a PBS documentary about "Typhoid Mary"—so the existence of this fic is entirely due to that program.
