Notes: I first wrote this complete one-shot quite early in my days as an FMA fan—but it remained unposted for nearly five years, because the original version contained spoilers for a larger adventure story I intended to write (and still do). After thoughts of this fic were recently raised for me again in conversation with kristensk, I felt it would be fitting to present it as a fandom_stocking gift to her. So, with some very minor edits, a long-overdue story is finally seeing daylight.

Notes: This fic is a fandom_stocking gift for halcyonskies, and it also fills the prompt of grooming at genprompt_bingo. I wanted to write an interaction between Edward and Pinako, who tends to be rather underused.
(For the record, my reference to Winry’s uncle in this story is based on a statement made by Pinako. In the first-anime episode “Mother”, she declares that State Alchemists were involved in the attacks that cost the lives of her sons, plural—meaning at least one other besides Winry’s father. My proposal is that the other son was not in Ishbal as merely a civilian.)
